The Cable Safety project is a public initiative carried out by the Aluminium Association in partnership with NP International Association ‘Elektrokabel’ and Association ‘Honest Position’, aimed at reducing levels of falsified and counterfeit cable and wire products in the Russian electrotechnical market.
Within the scope of the project, specially-designed system for peer review and other elements of self-regulation are being implemented in the cable sector, and issues concerning the quality of conducting materials are being examined. As part of this, sample products are being procured which undergo testing in compliance with safety requirements of the Customs Union, as well as GOST, and TU. If violations are found, companies, manufacturers and retailers are sent social demands, and corresponding complaints are submitted to the regulatory bodies. Results of the monitoring will be published and made available to the public, including in the media. Similar work is being undertaken to analyse certificates of conformity for the product, and commissioning documents.
In this case, the main effects will be reputation risks and forming a pool of trustworthy partners.
The Cable Safety project maintains active collaboration with the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandardt), the Federal Service for Accreditation, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, other interested establishments and public organisations. Significant emphasis is placed on the participation in the activities of working bodies of the State Commission to Combat Illicit Trafficking of Industrial Products, and similar commissions in the entities of the Russian Federation.
So far, a declaration of support for the project and work ethics in the electrotechnical market was signed by more than 120 companies from a number of producers, distributers and key consumers of cable products.
