On July 17 and 18, Arkhangelsk hosted the 'Electrician's Day' event, organised by the Outdoor Lighting Association, the Aluminium Association, and Moskabelmet Group. The competition among electricians brought together professionals from municipal lighting services in major cities across our country: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Ulan-Ude, Saratov, Yekaterinburg, Barnaul, and from the Republic of Belarus. The participants had a chance to learn and experience the advantages of the 8xxx-series aluminium cable in practice, installing it.
The business agenda of the event focused on implementing innovative and environmentally sound solutions in projects for a comfortable urban environment and the modernisation of housing and communal services. Additionally, it aimed to optimise the production and investment activities of municipal lighting services.
At a session organized by the Aluminium Association and the Moskabelmet Group, Danila Fedotov, an expert at the Aluminium Association, gave a talk about innovative aluminium alloys in electrical engineering and their applications in urban and industrial settings. Aluminium and copper are the main materials used in electrical engineering. However, due to the rising cost of copper in recent years, aluminium has become a more attractive option. According to experts, the use of aluminium-based alloys can reduce the cost of the conductor by at least five times compared to copper alternatives with the same conductivity. Owing to their properties, 8xxx-series aluminium alloys offer a range of benefits, including dependability, longevity, and resistance to low-temperature creep. In practice, this means that the resistance to kinks is similar to that of traditionally used copper. It also ensures high reliability of contact connections.
Danila Fedotov highlighted that the positive results of testing the resistance welded joints of conductors made of aluminium alloys in electrical installation products confirm that these connections meet the existing fire safety standards.
Solutions made from aluminium can help create a comfortable urban environment. Russian companies have developed a wide range of products that are highly corrosion-resistant, lightweight, cost-effective, and aesthetically pleasing. These products include aluminium cable trays and accessories systems, terminal boxes, weatherproof outdoor enclosures, thermoinsulated cabinets, EV charging stations, and aluminium charging cables.
Sergey Kislyuk, the development director of Moskabel Plant LLC, talked about an innovative cable designed for energy and lighting. This cable can significantly reduce the cost of projects by replacing copper with aluminium. 'Aluminium alloy cables are suitable for a wide range of applications. Most importantly, they help installers solve their problems. For them, flexibility, ease of use, reliability, and other factors are crucial. In line with the global trend, Russian cable manufacturers are moving away from copper to aluminium. The use of cables and wiring products made of the innovative 8xxx-series alloy allows for significant cost savings when implementing projects, such as improving public spaces and reconstructing outdoor lighting systems,' the expert noted.
Alexander Ekimchev, representative of Alumpark Company, told about modern anodised aluminium solutions for outdoor lighting, which are an important component in the creation of park and urban environment. The warranty for anodising treatment is 20 years, regardless of the region where the product is used. The choice in favor of aluminium is driven by the wide range of colours available in products and the potential to significantly reduce installation costs due to the lightweight nature of the metal. The company offers a wide range of products, including conical and cylindrical supports, as well as ready-made integrated solutions for parks, squares, and other public spaces.
The participants of the session were very excited about the possibility of using aluminium products in many projects related to the improvement of public spaces and the reconstruction of outdoor lighting systems.
Representatives of the Outdoor Lighting Association, Energy Saving Centre of Saint Petersburg, Moskabelmet Group, Alumpark LLC, Brightelec LLC, Armatech-Niled Group, Rosseti North-West PJSC, and Nevskaya Energetika LLC made their presentations as part of the business agenda.
