The national standard developed by the Aluminium Association that sets the rules for designing suspended facade system has been in force since 1 November 2020. The new national standard GOST R 58883-2020 "Ventilated suspended facade systems. General rules for structural calculations for design of substructures" was approved by order no. 255-st of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulations and Metrology of 17 June 2020. The document was developed as part of the work of the technical committee for standardization TK 144 "Construction Materials and Products" that includes the experts representing the members of the Aluminium Association: OOO Alucom with support of Alutech, OOO LPZ Segal, OOO Technostyle and UC RUSAL.
The scope of the standard covers the substructures of suspended facade systems with ventilated gap, which are highly sought-for in the modern construction and are produced from aluminium alloys, thin-gage cold rolled galvanized carbon steel and corrosion-resistant steel. The document sets the rules for structural calculations for designing the load-bearing structures and their components as well as their joints. Also, GOST R 58883-2020 classifies the substructures of ventilated facade system, regulates the responsibility level of the structures and sets the requirements for the materials, identifies the loads affecting the structure, as well as the calculation schemes, the load summary and the methods for checking the elements of facade systems.
The technology of thermally insulating the walls using suspended facades has long been in use in the developed European countries. For example, in Germany and Finland this technology has been used for more than 40 years. In the Russian Federation this technology has been used for decades. One important factor, evidently, is the fact that this document draws upon both the Russian and the foreign experience.
GOST R 58883-2020 will facilitate the implementation of the national strategic goal of abolishing the technical certificates for suspended facade systems and eliminating the barriers for broad application of suspended facade systems. In this way, the new standard opens broad possibilities for Russian architects and builders giving them a wider range of structural applications, including those produced from advanced materials such as aluminium alloys.
'The members of the Aluminium Association have our active support in eliminating the existing gaps in regulations that represent barriers for application of aluminium in construction. The development and approval of GOST R 58883-2020 is another important step on this road. The new standard will facilitate the application of safe ventilated suspended facade systems made from various materials, including aluminium alloys,' said the co-chair of the Aluminium Association Irina Kazovskaya.
