One of Russia’s largest cable manufacturers, which also makes products from innovative 8xxx series alloys, is expanding its capacity. The construction of new manufacturing facilities was supported by the Industrial Development Fund as part of the Development Projects sponsorship programme. The total investment in the project exceeded RUB 500 million. Representatives of government agencies, industry associations and unions, leading partners of the company, including UC RUSAL, attended the opening ceremony.
The new 5,000 m2 manufacturing site in the Moscow Region is equipped with advanced high-tech equipment and is designed to make new cable products, also for the oil and gas and shipbuilding sectors. The annual manufacturing capacity of the new site reaches 6,000 km of cabling.
“Moskabelmet Group is considered one of Russia’s leading cable manufacturers. They are open to innovations, new technologies, and cutting-edge products. "By being highly professional in each area, you not only maintain market leadership but also become a trendsetter, which leads to the expansion of production facilities," said Irina Kazovskaya, Chairperson of the Aluminium Association, at the opening ceremony.
"We are deeply grateful to the government agencies and partners for their support of our project and the opportunity to complete it. The new manufacturing site will enhance our competencies and create new jobs. It will make cables entirely from domestic raw materials," noted Mikhail Portnov, President of Moskabelmet Group.
Aluminium cable products are a key area for one of the Russian oldest smelters. According to Pavel Moryakov, Head of the Energy Sector, Aluminium Association, and CEO of Moskabelmet Group, the use of modern aluminium alloys 8176 and 8030 will enable project savings of up to 45%. Such benefits as cost (up to 60% cheaper than equivalents), fewer counterfeits and lighter weight make aluminium cables usable for many large-scale construction projects, such as housing renovation. Indeed, by switching to aluminium alloy cables the developer can save up to RUB 6 million for a 27-storey building, which is equivalent to the cost of two one-bedroom apartments.
