25.06.2024 - Aluminium Association
Artur Arutyunov, Head of Aviation Projects at the Aluminium Association, took part in SPAF 2024. The forum is organised and conducted by the Russian United Systems of Modern Transportation Technologies company, a domestic manufacturer of ground support equipment for the aviation. The event was attended by the heads of airlines, representatives of their IT departments, production and dispatching services, flight control centres, passenger transportation services, cargo terminals, and partner companies.
Artur Arutyunov spoke about aviation palletising equipment, including aluminium aviation pallets and LD3 and LD3-45W containers.
Aviation palletising equipment includes special aviation containers designed for the air transportation of baggage, cargo and mail
The aviation container and pallet have been fully developed in Russia. They are manufactured under Russian and international standards and are suitable for carriage by various types of aircraft. The introduction of automation in production helped reduce the cost of the final products. This has allowed the products to successfully compete with those by foreign suppliers. Previously, containers and pallets were not produced in Russia, but rather imported from China and Europe. Aviation palletising equipment comprises highly sought-after products in the market. Every year, the demand for them increases due to the deterioration of the existing containers and pallets. Today, the domestic market is estimated at 12,930 units. According to experts, until 2030, the demand of Russian airlines will keep growing by 1,175 units annually.
The average service life of aviation palletising equipment is 6 years, and the warranty life is 5 years
The products are made of 7xxx-series extrahigh tensile aluminium alloy. The load capacity for the LD3 (DKH) container is 1,588 kg with a mass of 75 kg; for the LD3 (DKE) container, it is 1,225 kg with a mass of 66 kg.
Aeroflot and Red Wings have already successfully tested the containers of both types. This year's plans include completing the certification of products with the relevant agencies.
Aviation pallets are pallets designed for the transportation of luggage and cargo in a wide-body, as well as in some types of narrow-body aircraft. A pallet weighs 91 kg, and its maximum cargo load can exceed 6,800 kg.
