06.10.2023 - Aluminium Association
The Aluminium Solutions for Innovations in Domestic Shipbuilding seminar was hosted by the Aluminium Association. It brought together the top shipbuilding industry experts and engineers. The moderator was Viktor Ivanenko, Head of the Aluminium Association’s Shipbuilding Sector. The guests discussed the application of domestic aluminium alloys to build cost-efficient, advanced ships, and potential import substitution solutions for shipbuilding.
A successful example of import substitution is the new outboard motor with domestic components. The 80...100 hp outboard motor is a joint project of Patriot &D and Moscow Bauman University.
As stated by Alexander Schastlivtsev, the head of the design office, there is virtually no outboard motor manufacturing in Russia. The annual import exceeds 100,000 units. The pilot project completed in 2022 is an 80-hp motor based on the VAZ 11182 car engine (manufactured by AutoVAZ). A prototype for bench tests was made in June. The product range will include more models up to 170 hp. The new motor uses only domestic components. Some structural elements are cast aluminium (the cylinder head, manifold, oil sump, middle and lower crankcases, etc.) Aluminium alloys with their low weight and high performance are the perfect choice for the new outboard motor components.
The motor is highly reliable with its advanced lubrication system that prevents dry starts after prolonged stops. Fuel efficiency is a key feature: the motors have a reliable fuel injection system that operates consistently even in extreme weather conditions. The engine control unit settings are for eco-friendliness and low fuel consumption.
The batch production will be launched soon in the Dubna SEZ. The first workshop for making 720 motors annually is nearly completed. Its floor space is 2,000 sq.m. The commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2023.
