The Samara Metal Production Plant (Arconic SMZ), Russia's largest producer of aluminium semi-finished products, obtained an ASI Performance Standard certificate. The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is an international organisation that develops and promotes responsible aluminium production and sales standards.
The Samara Metal Production Plant completed certification under the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative standards. The plant got a certificate at the same time as the Arconic head office in Pittsburgh, thus becoming the first production facility operated by Arconik and one of the first producers of aluminium semi-finished products in Russia to have completed ASI Performance Standard certification.
'The Samara Metal Production Plant is the largest Russian producer of aluminium semi-finished products, and we understand the responsibility we have to our customers and partners, employees and the community for maintaining adequate standards of operation,' comments Maxim Smirnov, the President of Arconik Russia. 'The status of the first ASI-certified company in this industry in Russia is a professional international recognition of the sustainable development of our production systems. ASI is becoming a new industry standard for metal production companies which export aluminium products.'
The ASI certification programme is the only initiative for assessing the compliance with the principles of sustainable development, spanning the entire aluminium production and aluminium product manufacturing process. The ASI Performance Standard is based on 59 criteria covering environmental, social, and management aspects, which determine the responsibility of a company working with aircraft-grade aluminium. The audit was conducted by the independent company DNV GL.
