The Institute of Light Materials and Technologies (LMTI) was established in 2017 in cooperation between RUSAL and the National University of Science and Technology (NITU) MISIS with the support of the Aluminium Association, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Education and Science.
The Institute is focused on creating materials for aviation and space equipment with increased strength parameters, developing additive technologies to create new materials that have increased strength and develop heatproof compositions with an operating temperature of up to 300 °С.
Other areas include: creating a new aluminium material to produce a boiler of a tank railcar intended to transport concentrated nitric acid, as well as developing an aluminium alloy with high processability during welding to produce semis for bridge structures. LMTI is not limited to the above areas and also works under projects that meet current requirements of the domestic economy.
