The AeroCarbon project was launched by LLC Znamensky Composite Plant engineers in the Kaliningrad Region in 2016. The main goal of the project was to develop a breakthrough technology for making composite window frames with the best energy efficiency and fire proofing parameters. In 2017, a new manufacturing process was developed and patented for making an innovative heavy duty foam composite material based on carbon nano-structures for structural elements. In 2018, the project underwent full expert assessment by the Federal State-Funded Educational Institution 'Foundation for the Promotion of Small Businesses in Research and Development', and was awarded a RUB 15 mln grant under the Commercialisation programme.
In 2019, a major foreign construction company joined AeroCarbon as a co-investor; the result of this cooperation will be the construction of a manufacturing facility for making innovative window frames and transparent structural elements in the Kaliningrad Region in 2019–2020. 80% of the products manufactured by the new facility will be sold in the EU, the Middle East and the US.
